Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health (PACFaH)

Coalition advocacy and social accountability that pushed governments to fund and implement nutrition policy at national level and in Kaduna, Niger and Nasarawa.

Why it matters

Policies need budgets and follow-up

The National Strategic Plan of Action for Nutrition existed, but states had not domesticated it and health and nutrition were underfunded.

How we worked

Coalitions with a budget focus

  1. Training of trainers built a pool of local advocacy facilitators.
  2. Budget tracking followed allocations through to release.
  3. Government champions sped up policy implementation.
  4. Media partnerships amplified advocacy asks.
What we learned
Coordinated coalitions win more.A united voice carried more weight with government.
Budget tracking builds accountability.Published figures made commitments harder to ignore.
Engagement must be continuous.Political commitment fades without follow-up.
